John D. Weis Memorial Scholarship

The John D. Weis Memorial Scholarship was established in 2025 by family and friends after John passed away unexpectedly in July, 2023 at the age of 47.
John had a passion for learning and promoting education and financial literacy among students and young adults. After graduating from high school, John earned a bachelor’s degree followed by a master’s degree and worked professionally in a variety of areas with a specific interest in entrepreneurship/business and financial planning. He would often talk with others and present in local area student classrooms on the importance of post-secondary professional education/training and preparing for the future.
John is survived by his wife Kim and their four children, ages 13, 15, 17, and 19 (at the time of his passing). To honor and remember John and to continue to advance his commitment to education and financial literacy, the JDW Scholarship was started with a mission to help provide post-secondary scholarships to ND students who have lost (deceased) a parent or legal guardian.
